For parents
Share a story and a song before bed. If you feel like staying a little longer, each companion offers a look inside the story and one simple thing to try together. The activity can wait until another day.
Watch together, listen with the screen off, or settle in with the book. There is no activity to finish before you say goodnight.
Each story companion gives you a small way back into the book or episode. You can notice a moment together, ask one question, or try an activity with something you already have at home. Your child can talk, point, sing, watch or simply listen. There is no lesson to finish.

Sharing a favourite toy.
A soft ball game to try together.
Gerry is unsure about giving Milo a turn with his red ball. After noticing Milo is sad, he takes a breath and offers the ball. Ask, “What did you notice when Milo asked for a turn?” If your child wants to play, roll a soft ball you are both happy to share.
A rainy day adventure.
Start a pretend story with a cardboard box.
It is raining, and Gerry makes an adventure with a box, blanket and Roary. Ask, “What would your box become?” An empty box and a familiar soft toy are enough to begin; your child can lead the story.
A hello without a hurry.
Let a turn taking game find its own pace.
Gerry meets Toby at the waterhole and gives their new friendship time. Ask, “How did Gerry show Toby he was happy to wait?” As an optional activity, try a slow ball game without a timer or a required answer.
A pause to notice.
Listen together for a familiar sound.
Gerry and Joey stop to listen after losing their way with an invitation. A familiar galah near the big gumtree helps them recognise where they are. Ask, “Which sound helped Gerry and Joey?” Try noticing one sound together in a familiar, safe place.
Mr H reads one of Gerry’s stories, makes room for a little conversation and finishes with a song. The companions below explain specific choices in each story, from waiting for a shy hello to noticing a familiar sound.
